The kinds of Qualities i look for!!

The kinds of qualities i look for in an internship is

1. A good mentor
2. A good environment(not dangerous or harm full)
3. I look for my mentor to be a good role model (no smoking , drinking, or other bad habits)
4. I look for a place thats going to have work for me to do ... because I dont want to just be sitting there at my internship doing a little amount of work, finish it and then have nothing to do because thwy dont have any thing for me to do at that time... I need to be in a place where they are going to have things for me to do at all times.
5. I look for a work place that is student friendly ( meaning they dont mind having me there in there preasents)
6. Last but not least... I look for a place that I am interested in working in because if I dont like the work that I do how will I ever surive doing that type of work?... Retorical question!
7. I want to be in a place where I'm doing work that i love and I also want to be able to have fun doing the work.

Today was mellow

Like I said today was a mellow day..... there were not to many babies in the Nick-u today ... we only had about 4, so just to keep me busy, my mentors that work in that department told me to help them out wit hands on things like, making cribs, changing dippers, making bottles and feeding the babies. It was a good feeling to know that they noticed that i was there and that I was looking for something to do , and when I asked they acknowledged me and gave me something to do. I enjoyed feeding and changing dippers.... just getting the chance to hold one of the infants was amazing and i really look forward to doing it when i get older and i actually am working and getting paid for what i do.

What i got to see

Today was a great day.... its interesting how at one moment im doing one thing and then im doing another the next.... i was just up on the ninth floor running errands for the nurses in the nic-u, as i got stopped by the peditrician that works in the section i work in... she asked me what mty school did to get me where i am now and i told her that my school does internships... she then asked me if there was anything else she could do to help me get deepe into my experiences as a intern!!! thats when i thought to myself... i want to see a baby being born... at first i was not going to tell her because i thought it would be asking for to much... but hey! you never know if you dont take the shot and go for it.... so i did! i told her i wanted to see someone having a baby.. she said ok and that they had a few women going into labor rite at that moment... they took mre to the back and got me all smocked up and i was on my way in .... i was sitting there for a few minutes .... and then it happend... the lady started pushing and saying its comming.... the head came out then i saw the body ... soon enough the baby was here !!!! cool

What I Have Learned.... ooooo (Hectic) = )

Today was a GOOD day..... I guess..... I ended up correcting a doctor about something that had to do with a Pap Test... I kinda think she got mad at me but, I'm proud of myself..... because it's not every day that you catch a young person like me correcting a older doctor.... but like they say.... everyone makes mistakes and that includes doctors. I would like to say that it was something to laugh about though, because i kept telling her that she was wrong and she kept telling me that I was wrong..... but I knew that I was right because she had given me some notes and, and I studied them so, I was positive about my corrections..... and if i wasn't positive/ sure I probably would not have made that correction ........ but any way... I guess she got mad at me and she sent me out of the room, and when she was done with what she had to do with the patient, she came out and told me not to ever correct her again, espcially when I'm wrong, thats when I showed her the notes that she made me write down, word after word , comming out of her mouth...... she looked at me and she said ok.... my mistake.....ooops..... it's three O' clock you are dismissed........ Even thought it ended on somewhat of a bad note.... I was still proud of myself because i was right ..... and I stood up for myself until I proved it!!!! =)

I SAW A PAP TEST!!! AND BOY WAS IT COOL = )

stands for the Human Today was a good day, I got the opportunity to see a "PAP TEST". At first I was worried a bout feeling sick because I was going to be seeing a real persons vagina, and that's something that I don't see every day, be sides my own. I got to see the tool that doctors use to open up the vagina, this thing is called a Speculum. At the hospital they use plastic ones.... but before, they used metal ones, now they only use the metal ones for certain procedures to save money, because the metal ones are more expensive. The Reason This Test Is Done ?..... From my knowledge the pap test is done to check the cervix and make sure it's in good condition, not only that, but to make sure that the young woman doesn't have HPV. What Is HPV?...... HPVPapillomavirus. This virus causes genital warts and the possibility of cervical cancer. I learned a lot a lot and I think that it was a great experience.... and if I had the chance to do it again I probably would!!!

What i did in Women's services today

To day was a good day. I got to go to the Women's Services and work with Doctor Do. I saw multiple things there. I got to see a lady come in with an issue regarding herpes after she had a baby...... Things that I learned from this was that you could have herpes all your life and never know because you have never had an out break, but after having a baby or something seriously stressful, it can cause an out break that you have never had and that is when you find out that you have herpes. I also got to see a lady who came in with post- menoposal bleeding.... she happen to loose her period at the age of thirty five, 15 years later she is now experiencing spotting. So what doctor Do did was a Indometreal- Biopsy..... this is when they go in to the cervix to inter the indometreal lining of the uterus to pull out bloody cells. I got the chance to see how everything was done ..... it was a bit hard to hold down because of all the excitement but it was highly interesting.

To Day was a good day!!!

Hey you guys... I'm sorry i haven't written in a while, but things have been kind of rough lately. However, today was a good day, see I have moved from the medical records to womens health services and the nursery on the ninth floor at the hospital. I go to the womens health services on Thursdays and then to the nursery on Tuesdays. Today is Tuesday so i went to the nursery. when I got up there, I rang the buzzer and they said "How may I help you", thats when I said "Hi I'm the nursery intern". The door buzzed and I went right in. when i got in the door, the first thing I did was washed my hands because when your up there your working with babies and you don't want to bring any germs that are on the outside, to the inside where they are located. When I first walked in the room I just walked around and looked at all the babies in the incubators, then I was greeted by a lady named Deborah, she welcomed me to the department and said that if i had any questions to feel free to ask any one in the room. I then met a pediatrician named Tiffany, she was great... she told me a lot about how she was educated and how she got to be where she wanted to be in the medical field.. I took a lot of notes and got a lot of my questions answered.... I would have to say that today was one of the best days of my life!!
